What kind of coffee maker should I get to make iced coffee?

I want to make iced coffee at home, but I do not own a coffee maker. What is the best inexpensive kind to buy? What else will I need?

Get an iced tea maker. Then you don't even have to wait for it to cool after it's brewed. I got mine for $20 at Wal-Mart and I love it! I don't even make tea with it, I make iced coffee all summer long.

You can get one for under $20 at any target or Walgreen's (Proctor Silex and Black and Decker) both work just fine. Expensive coffee makers are just more expensive they pretty much all do the same thing. Just get a good expresso blend or dark roast coffee for the best flavor when making iced coffee - standard coffees like Maxwell House and Folgers are not strong enough unless you buy a specialty dark blend. Personally I prefer whole beans and grind them myself for less oil and more flavor - but it is a personal preference. Good Luck!

How much do you intend to make at one time??
No reason why you can't just boil it in a big pot...
Your going to add ice to dilute it
Start with a strong brew first
Remember you can add egg shells to a pot to clarify and smooth the flavor.
Filter in a strainer to control the grounds

If it's just for you, an Aeropress would be perfect. It's just a plastic tube, you heat water in the microwave and press it through a little filter. It makes concentrated coffee which you then have to water down, but that would be an advantage for iced coffee since you want it stronger anyway because the melting ice cubes will water it down.

I have one and I love it. And I am a real addict. I even roast my own coffee beans.

    Check it out here:

If you are making coffee for more than one, a French Press would be my choice.

I really like to use a percolator to brew my coffee. Personally I think it tastes better. The rule for making ice coffee is to just double the amount of coffee, then just put it in the fridge. If you are impatient like me I recommend filling a bowl with ice and putting the coffee in a plastic bag and then covering it with the ice. Surprisingly it works fast!

Any coffee maker will do. Some have more bells and whistles on them, like timers to make your coffee for you at a specific time, but it is up to you how much you want to spend. I make iced coffee all the time. It doesn't take anything special to make the coffee.
I start with regular coffee, and mix to my flavor sugar, and cream. Then I fill a tall glass with ice, to the top. Next, add the coffee, and stir.......enjoy!

    Stevo.

P.S. sometimes, I add a bit of chocolate sauce, and cream, and not use as much if any sugar. Try small amounts of coffee, and flavorings to see what your favorite combos are. Experiment, but use small glasses, and you won't waste as much coffee getting the mixes down.

I usually use a coffee press to make the coffee. Coffee press cost less than the usual coffee maker, if get those jug type, can use it as serving jug if later not using as coffee press. Kind of 2 in 1 usage. But down side to it is, you will need to chill the coffee .
