Cuisinart DCC-1200 And Zojirushi Fresh Brew Programmable Automatic Coffee Makers Reviewed
If you are interested in purchasing a programmable automatic coffee maker for yourself or as a gift, given that Christmas is approaching, there are two popular coffee makers that offer great features and value. The two are the Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central and the Jozirushi ECBD-15 Fresh Brew. Both can be purchased for less than $71.
Coffee Maker Design:
Aesthetically, both are distinctively well designed. The Cuisinart DCC-1200 is more classically designed , while the Zojirushi.... is more hourglass in shape This is a very personal decision.
The design affects the function and ease of use in both cases.. I am referring to the placement of the controls. Cuisinart DCC-1200---on this unit, the controls are positioned on the front, which makes them easier to see and easier to set and use. In my opinion this is good design.
Zojirushi Fresh Brew---in this unit, the controls are positioned on the side. This is an inconvenient placement because it is harder to see and harder to reach. In addition, you have to have clear countertop next to the unit. In effect, you lose counter space.
Does It Keep Coffee Hot? Both the Cuisinart and the Zojirushi keep your coffee hot, but in a different way. Cuisinart DCC-1200 uses a hot plate with heat settings. It does a good job of keeping the coffee in the glass carafe hot and shuts off automatically.
Zojirushi Fresh Brew---This unit has a thermal carafe which does an excellent job of keeping your coffee hot with the advantage of putting the where you may be drinking your coffee.
Small Batch Settings: The Cuisinart DCC-1200 has a small batch setting for those desiring to make small quantities of coffee. The Zojirushi Fresh Brew does not have that feature.
Built In Water Filter to reduce minerals in the water: Cuisinart: Yes, this unit does have a water filter. Zojirushi Fresh Brew does not have a water filter.
Coffee Taste Test: Overall, both produced a fine aromatic delicious cup of coffee.
Conclusion: Both the Cuisinart and Zojirushi are well designed. The materials used are of superior quality, sturdy and will last a long time under normal use. The Cuisinart DCC-1200 uses a glass carafe, which, while sturdy, is breakable, while the Zojirushi Fresh Brew uses a metal thermal carafe. If you prefer a thermal carafe and have a good tasting water , then the Zojirushi is for you. Otherwise, I would recommend the Cuisinnart DCC-1200 12 Cup Brew Central. You will be pleased witheither. It is my recommendation that you choose the Cuisinart, unless you must have the thermal carafe.
