Single Cup Coffee Makers
With the introduction of single cup coffee makers, brewing a great cup of coffee is as simple as pressing a button. Serious coffee fanatics tend to prefer grinding their own beans and having more control over their brew, but most coffee drinkers will be extremely happy with a single cup coffee maker.
The Pros
Convenience...you are able to brew up a delicious cup of hot java very fast. They're also small and very easy to store!
Cleanliness...no more messing around with dirty filter paper and soaked grounds. This style uses little pods that leave no mess behind!
Consistency...many people favor consistency, and you're guaranteed that with a single cup coffee maker. Makers like Keurig use small plastic containers to store the grounds. You won't be able to discern any difference between brews using this style.
The Cons
There are various perks, nevertheless there are some cons.
One cup at a time...these only make one cup at a time. This can be great for anyone who is the only one drinking coffee, but if you have multiple people in the house or at your workplace, this style isn't your best choice.
Brand limitation...you're restricted to the specific make of the machine you purchased. I've never been dissatisfied with the selection from each company, but giving up a handful of your preferred coffee beans is not always worth transitioning to a single serve coffee maker.
The expense of single cup coffee makers has dramatically decreased over time. This style is very convenient for any individual which has limited space and does not have a family of coffee lovers in your house. If you're religious about which coffees you will drink and not drink, this is not a good choice. In that case, you'd be more satisfied getting a more pricey design of maker that offers you more options and control over your brew.
The lack of choice among coffee grounds is usually a deal breaker for many individuals. I've always been satisfied with every cup of single cup coffee, however I would prefer to grind my own beans and use an alternative method of brewing. If your situation is right, don't hesitate to try one. Not everybody has the luxury of a large kitchen for a great big espresso maker or commercial sized coffeemaker.
If you aren't worried about abandoning your preferred beans and need the convenience of a quick and easy cup of hot brew, then a single serve coffee maker is a great investment for you.
